Red Ale

American-Style Amber/Red Ale | 6.5% ABV | Unknown IBU
Offered By: WESTEXANS
Member Notes:
"Now this is a great red ale. It has a muted, dark orange color and a white head. Its aroma is of a soft, highly-caramelized double IPA. It's smooth and soft in the mouth, and tastes alot like a soft, watered down or aged barley wine. Mmmm, this is tasty." - Noss

Founders Brewing Company

Reds Rye IPA

Red | 6.6% ABV | 70 IBU
Offered By: KAY JAY

Red Rock Brewing

Elephino

American-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) | 8% ABV | Unknown IBU
Offered By: WESTEXANS
Member Notes:
"This tasty double IPA has a bright, light cloudy orange color and a bright white head. The nose is fresh and almost citrusy, clean, and bready. It's Very bright in the nose, and flavor is bright as well. It's bready, but thin-bodied, and finishes not at all bitter for the hop presence. It finishes thin and almost dry, giving up a little of its alcohol presence. Good, and different!" - Noss

Hop Guru

KJ's Birthday Porter 2012

Porter | 8.5% ABV | Unknown IBU
Offered By: KAY JAY
Member Notes:
"Touch of bourbon in the finish is almost unnoticeable, but adds to the complexity." - Noss
84

Spaten-Franziskaner-Brau (InBev)

Spaten Munchen Dunkel

South German-Style Dunkel Weizen | 5.2% ABV | 21.5 IBU
Offered By: SANTA
Club/Brewer Notes:
Pours a deep red/amber-brown colour with a creamy head. Crispy aromas of malts with some hops and spice. Flavors of rich dark malt with some nutty and chocolaty character and some hops bitterness. Low carbonation but smooth and creamy, finishing dry.

85

North Coast Brewing Company

Red Seal Ale

American-Style Amber/Red Ale | 5.4% ABV | 42 IBU
Offered By: MOJO
Club/Brewer Notes:
Malt and hops are beautifully married in this full-bodied, copper-red Pale Ale. Red Seal is generously hopped for a long, spicy finish. An excellent accompaniment to grilled meats and rich sauces.

Member Notes:
"Dark, golden orange color, much like a double IPA, clear with an off-white head. Aroma is rich and malty, sweet, and hoppy. Very copper-like. Very soft and delicious in the mouth, smooth, and silky. Slightly barnyard-like finish. Light, refreshing, well-flavored." - Noss
87

Ballast Point Brewing Company

Calico Amber Ale

American-Style Amber/Red Ale | 5.5% ABV | Unknown IBU
Offered By: NOSS
Club/Brewer Notes:
Calico Amber Ale is brewed in the American Amber style. Full bodied and aromatic, it is brewed with 6 malts for deep red color and full flavor.

Member Notes:
"Yes, this really does have a deep red color for an amber ale. Topped with a white head, it has an aroma of slightly soapy, herbal, soft, moist hops. The flavor is moderately malty with a touch of caramel and soft, hoppy goodness that finishes slightly bitter. I need more." - Noss
87

Deschutes Brewery

Red Chair NWPA

American-Style Pale Ale | 6.2% ABV | 60 IBU
Offered By: ALIVEGAS31
Club/Brewer Notes:
The citrus punch of a big IPA, minus the one-dimensional hop sledgehammer. Seven select European and domestic malts round out the edges for a complex, copper-colored brew. Like its namesake ski lift, it's an insider's ride to fresh thrills.

Malt: Pale, Crystal, Munich, Carapils, Pilsner, Carastan
Hops: Cascade, Centennial

Member Notes:
"This very lovely amber-orange colored pale ale is a great all-around pale ale when you want something tasty but not a complete knock-out. Not overpowering, but not wimpy on the hops. And great characteristics, might I add! This beer pours a really nice, uber-frothy off-white head, leaving behind some bubbly, yet strong and sticky, lacing. The aroma is fresh and mouth-wateringly hoppy. The flavor simple and straight-forward, a clean sampling of some really great hops and some tasty malts. It has a superbly fun mouth feel that's soft and almost a little creamy. The finish is lightly reminiscent of freshly brewed barley, lemongrass, and a mysterious spice characteristic that makes this a crazily delicious drink." - Noss

Green Flash Brewing Company

Hop Head Red

Imperial or Double Red Ale | 7% ABV | 70 IBU
Offered By: MOJO
Club/Brewer Notes:
Resinous hop characteristics emerge from an enormous hopping with Columbus, Nugget and Amarillo overtaking the rich caramel malt base. To add luscious?hop flavors and enticingly floral hop aromas, we dry-hop the brew with bucket loads of Amarillo hops. Welcome to the world of Red IPA.

Clown Shoes Beer

Eagle Claw Fist

Imperial or Double Red Ale | 8% ABV | 100 IBU
Offered By: SANTA
Club/Brewer Notes:
Eagle Claw Fist utilizes the same Chico yeast that shaped Hoppy Feet and Brown Angel. Canadian Two Row, English Crystal, and a little English Black Patent malt provide a sweet, balanced backbone. Simcoe, Centennial, and Citra work together to create a unique hop assault, with an intense bitterness that manages to leave your palate in one piece and is harmonized by the flavors of tropical fruits and flowers. The finish is dry.

Member Notes:
"Although Clown Shoes has flashy label artwork that may be attractive to some, I, personally, find that it's hit or miss with their beers. This one is more of a miss. That is, they could have easily done a much better job on this. In the glass it has a muddy orange color and a bright white head. Its aroma is much like a dentist's office. I take that back... its aroma is exactly like a dentist's office. It's a little flat on the palate, but it does provide a slightly sweet, caramel flavor that's super-hopped and bitter. It tastes like a ridiculously hopped amber. Well, I guess it is. Overall, it's alright, but I think this is way too bitter and badly hopped." - Noss

Real Ale Brewing Company

Brewers' Cut Imperial Red

Imperial or Double Red Ale | 8.8% ABV | 75 IBU
Offered By: FATBOY
Club/Brewer Notes:
WE PRESENT TO YOU OUR IMPERIAL RED ALE, an offering worthy of the occasionally frigid Texas winter. This bold Red Ale is sure to keep you warm while satisfying your strongest malt and hop cravings. Fruity esters and a firm caramel malt character are interlaced with hefty doses of Cascade, Columbus and Centennial hops.

8 Wired / Renaissance / Nøgne Ø

Ø for Awesome

Imperial or Double Red Ale | 9% ABV | 75 IBU
Offered By: KAY JAY
Club/Brewer Notes:
A Dane, a Norwegian, and an American walk into a brewery. The result is no joke but there is a punchline involved. In November of 2011 three brewers from 8 Wired Brewing, Renaissance brewing and Norway's Nøgne Ø brewing got together at Renaissance in Blenheim to produce a Collaboration extravaganza!

The result is a brewed a strong, dark, hoppy ale called Ø for Awesome The beer is based on three beers, one from each brewery: Renaissance Stonecutter Scotch Ale, 8 Wired Hopwired IPA and Nøgne Ø #100.

The name of the beer is based on a phrase by David Tua, professional heavyweight champion, when he appeared on New Zealands Wheel of Fortune in 1992 and requested an Ø for Awesome!

Member Notes:
"This delightful treat has a dark brown color and a light brown head. It smells much like an American Barleywine, sticky sweet and divinely hoppy. The aroma is sweet and crazy alcoholic for only 9% ABV. It seems to be fermented with a very clean and efficient American yeast, but is soft in the mouth and slightly muted and tame compared to the aroma. It finishes clean, almost woody, and malty, with a touch of alcohol. Thin on the palate and in the finish, this "blend" came out very well. Love." - Noss

TRiNiTY Brewing Company

The Flavor

American-Style Sour Ale | 5.8% ABV | Unknown IBU
Offered By: WESTEXANS
Club/Brewer Notes:
The Flavor, Triple Cherry Dark Kriek. Yes, we have done it. We've combined all of the complex flavors of dark malt with: coffee and three varieties of cherries. We then aged this beer in our sour barrels with over a pound of cherries per gallon of beer for long periods of time to create our most coveted and complex bottle. Huge cherry and malic acid are balanced with roast and chocolate malts while subtle green apple, barnyard, leather, and coffee dance throughout the palate. 5.8% ABV; extremely rare.

Member Notes:
"This awesome sour has a very, very dark brown color with a touch of red and an off-white head. Its aroma is of a sour red, thin for one and less bold. The flavor is soft and mellow for the style, thick but light. There's a touch of cherry in the finish, slightly reminiscent of a cherry cough drop. Nice. Classy. I approve. " - Noss

Jester King Craft Brewery

RU-55 Sour Red

American-Style Sour Ale | 7.3% ABV | Unknown IBU
Offered By: NOSS
Club/Brewer Notes:
Red ale aged in oak barrels with wild yeast and souring bacteria. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and bottle-conditioned. This beer is a tribute to our good friend Russ Beadie. Thanks, Russ. Thuss.

Member Notes:
"This neat sour red from Jester King has a dark orange color, more brown than red, with an off-white head. The aroma is slightly woody, more wild than sour, but still definitely sour. It's light on the nose, and easier than alot of the heavier sour reds. Jester King is good at making a palatable sour. It's also very light in the mouth, almost like someone watered down a sour red. Still, the sourness persists and rocks the finish. I like the idea of a palatable, almost sessionable sour red. It's less fruity than others as well. " - Noss
