Hill Country Beer Club
Collaborations/Spring Cleaning
March 22, 2013
TBD
14:45:00
We still haven't determined a theme for the meeting on the 22nd. One proposed theme is "Collaborations." If we can come up with enough of them, we can go with that. If not (or maybe in addition to), we can do a "Spring Cleaning" where you bring in whatever you want to get out of your fridge.

Sierra Nevada Brewing CompanyBRUX Domesticated Wild AleAmerican Wild Ale | 8.3% ABV | Unknown IBUOffered By: FATBOY |
What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevada’s Grossman Family and Russian River’s Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. Brux began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different: The liquid manifestation of change over time. Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Brux will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, spice and lemon - this ale will progress in the bottle for many years.
Member Notes:
"Foggy, pale orange in color with a thin white head. Aroma is citrusy, slightly wild, with somewhat soapy, grassy notes. The flavor is dominated by a thin sourness with notes of hay. Thin, easy, slightly sour, tart in the mouth. Finish is clean and easy, leaves notes of oak in the finish." - Noss
"Tart, but not sour. Still not my cup of tea." - santa

Boulevard Brewing CompanyCollaboration No. 3 StingoEnglish-style ale | 8.5% ABV | Unknown IBUOffered By: WESTEXANS |
For this, the third installment of Boulevard Brewing Company's Smokestack Collaboration Series, Boulevard Brewmaster Steven Pauwels joins forces with husband and wife team Dann and Martha Paquette of Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project. Together, the brewers bring to life a modern version of the traditional English ale known as "Stingo" an arcane style from the 17th century. So called because it is said to "sting" the palate, this remarkably complex ale reveals a hint of tartness against a rich, malty background.
Member Notes:
"Dark, solid brown in color. It has a sweet, muddy, slightly spicy aroma and a flavor that's very nice. It has a striking, sharp flavor of earthy roasted malts. Heavy, but bright and clean... very nice. It finishes malty with an English yeast character. But man, I can't get over how clean this is. It leaves a feeling of roasted malts and alcohol in the throat. I like it!" - Noss

Clown Shoes & BrashFlight of the PimpDouble Brown | 10% ABV | 110 IBUOffered By: KAY JAY |
Double Brown Ale blended with Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout. Some pimps walk. Some pimps strut. Some pimps run from the law. This pimp, a blend of Pimp and Knob Creek bourbon barrel aged Blaecorn Unidragon, rides between giant wings as they flap through a fiery night sky.
Member Notes:
"What a name, huh? Good on them. Black in color with a medium brown head. Aroma is fairly easy, with soft roasted malts barely owning the nose. Alcohol gently decorates a slightly roasted malt flavor. It's Easy in the mouth, lightened by alcohol but otherwise thick and malty with roasted malts and alcohol rocking the casbah. It's just so damn smooth! I suppose this is much like what you'd think a strong brown would taste like. Nice. 8 4 8 4 16 A " - Noss

Brooklyn BreweryBlack Chocolate StoutAmerican-Style Imperial Stout | 10% ABV | Unknown IBUOffered By: NOSS |
No aging. This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

Beer geeks and rodeos don't often go together, but if ever there were a place where the two would meet, it would be Denmark. No one from Jester King has ever been to Denmark, but our friends Mikkel and Thomas tell us the entire country is inhabited by craft beer drinking, spicy food loving Viking cowboys and cowgirls, and we think that sounds awesome. So as they say in Danish, bunden i vejret eller resten i haret, which we believe is pro-nounced "Yee-haw!"

"The peat really comes thru." - santa
"Dark brown in color, murky, with an off-white head. Aroma is smoky, with immediate notes of peat. It's unique in its smokiness. It's really neat in the mouth. Odd, but smooth and smoky with strong peat. I like it. It's really smooth. I think I want to age mine 3-4 years. Probably 3. It has a lingering finish of alcohol and peat, with the smoke burning off pretty fast. This is a very complex, interesting beer that's smooth, mature, and awesome - regardless of what other people think of it." - Noss
