If you consider yourself a 'hop-head' at all, you won't want to miss this one! The theme this month is "IPA." Should be easy enough to find those. Maybe we'll be able to look at prospective club logos by next meeting -- hint, hint, jab, jab. All are welcome to provide a design if you're the creative type. Maybe we can combine aspects of multiple logo submissions. We haven't updated our logo in about six years so your design could have a lasting impact on the club - glasses, t-shirts, koozies, etc.

Uinta Brewing CompanyTrader Session IPAAmerican-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) | 4% ABV | Unknown IBUOffered By: NOSS |
India Pale Ale is a style of ale noted for its high hop content. The style of beer received its name in the 19th century when England controlled the country of India. With no refrigeration or pasteurization in those days, the British were challenged to brew a beer that would survive the long, hot trip to India and upon arrival, satisfy the British citizens and thirsty troops stationed there. In discovering that the hop flower is a natural preservative, the British brewed an ale with an abundant amount of hops, and it worked! Hundreds of years later, the style is still the favorite of many a craft brew drinker. Uinta's Trader is a well balanced version of the traditional India Pale Ale. The beer is dry hopped with a generous amount of Centennial hops that give it a nice floral finish and a citrusy assertiveness without jeopardizing its malt flavor.

Rogue AlesBrutal IPAAmerican-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) | 6% ABV | 59 IBUOffered By: NOSS |
Brutal combines Oregon hops with English Malts. The Oregon grown Crystal hop is a triploid variety developed from the German Hallertau aroma hop variety with contributions from Cascade, Brewers Gold, and Early Green. Crystal is the only hop used in brewing Brutal and it provides a massive amount of aroma without dry-hopping. The English malts used are floor malted Pipkin (a mellow cross of Maris Otter and Warboys, from an English company called Beeston), Cara Vienna and Cara Wheat.

"Opaque orange in color with a bright white head... It has a very distinctive aroma that's earth and spicy. Nice. It's light and soft in the mouth, but well hopped. The malts are sweet, but not overpowering. Easy, light finish that's potently hopped hut still gentle. Soft. Nice. Well hopped. 7 4 7 4 15 B " - noss

Alaskan Brewing CompanyAlaskan Black IPABlack IPA | 6.4% ABV | 65 IBUOffered By: FATBOY |
Alaskan's spring seasonal release is a new beer experience created from a combination of traditional beer styles. Alaskan Black IPA has the appearance of a porter or stout but combines the roasted malty characters with the refreshing flavor and bright aroma of an American IPA. Alaskan's spring seasonal features the hop-forward profile of an IPA with the dark black color and flavors of a fuller-bodied porter. A burst of fresh, citrus notes from Cascade and Centennial hops balance the hints of coffee and bitter chocolate with a subtle toasted sweetness and dark fruit highlights leading to a pleasantly dry finish.

Dogfish Head BreweryDogfish Head Sixty-OneIndia Pale Ale | 6.5% ABV | 60 IBUOffered By: FATBOY |
The name Sixty-One is a reminder that this beer is Dogfish Head's best-selling 60 Minute IPA plus one new ingredient: syrah grape must from California.
Member Notes:
"What a weird color... Looks like a rose, with a pinkinsh white head. The aroma is actually like a cross between a white Zin and a beer. It's strange in the mouth, too, with a flavor also much like a white Zin. Easy to say the beer part of this isn't standing stiffly enough against the grape must... At all. It's light and easy in the mouth though, and the grapiness fades after a while. Not bad... Fruity, light, but still enjoyable. 6 2 6 3 12 B-" - noss

Sierra Nevada Brewing CompanyEstate Home Grown AleAmerican-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) | 6.7% ABV | Unknown IBUOffered By: WESTEXANS |
Here in the sun-drenched fields of California's North Valley, the black soil is rich with promise. In winter, rows of barley seed are laid in the freshly tilled dirt. In spring, trellises are set for hops. From our fields comes a remarkable homegrown ale, made with organic wet hops and barley grown at our brewery here in Chico and one of the few estate-made ales produced anywhere in the world! This Estate Ale is rich with the flavors of the valley—featuring hops with earthy, grapefruit-like flavors and layered spicy aromas and barley with mild sweetness and smooth, toasted flavors. Together, these crops grow alongside the brewery to make a truly unique brew. Enjoy! This is one of the only estate-made ales available in the world today. Produced with hops and barley produced on the premises of our brewery in Chico, this ale reflects the flavors of our surroundings in California's fertile central valley. By growing out own ingredients, we ensure the finest two-row barley and the freshest hops on earth, from the field and into the brew kettle.

Laughing Dog BrewingRocket Dog Rye IPAAmerican-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) | 6.96% ABV | 62 IBUOffered By: WESTEXANS |
No wonder there's a hop shortage. Brewed special for the OBF, Rocket Dog launches four types of hops at five different intervals into this brew. Roasted barley and rye, pale and Munich malts give this beer a red tint. Fermented a little on the dry side, this thirst-quencher is a hop lover's dream.

"Somewhat opaque, bright orange gold in color with a bright white head. Aroma is very fruity and soapy, floral, unique... Not sure how to describe the nose. Herbal, plant-like almost. It's soft and cuddly in the mouth, neat and almost sour and full of wheat. I thought it was supposed to be rye. Yeah... No rye. Wheat. Good for a wheat, though... Hoppiness makes up for the wheat well. 7 4 7 4 15 B" - noss

At DEBC, we like hops, but we like American hops most of all. Here we use some of our absolute favorites. However, they might not be used like you may expect, by using varieties with high alpha acid contents (which means more potential for bitterness) and using them in ways that emphasize the flavor and aroma we can render a rather bitter ale with over the top tropical fruit, citrus, pine, floral and more hop derived aroma and flavor. Style: American-style India Pale Ale Hops: Citra, Amarillo, Chinook, Palisade, and Summit Malts: Pale Ale, Vienna, Honey, and White Wheat Yeast: English Ale

"Bright cloudy orange color with a bright white head... It's a bright beer! Sweet, bready aroma with citrusy hops decorating. It's awesome in the mouth... Meaty, but soft and slick, with a soft but distinctive hop flavor. Yeast helps soften, I think. Love it. 7 3 8 4 16 A" - noss

Dogfish Head Brewery75 Minute IPAAmerican-Style India Pale Ale (IPA) | 7.5% ABV | Unknown IBUOffered By: DAVIDB |
Johnny Cask has entered the building! We've retrofitted a 15 barrel tank to perfectly produce a very special cask conditioned ale (so, we have a little time to play around during winters at the Delaware coast). This beer, known as Dogfish Head 75 Minute IPA is a blend of 60 and 90 Minute IPAs with a special whole leaf cascade dry-hopping session. Post-hopping the beer gest transferred into firkins and dosed with fresh yeast and maple syrup from the ole family homestead (actually the first batch will be re-fermented with maple syrup from the farm up the road from ours since ours won’t be ready until late March.

"Semi opaque light orange in color with a bright white head. The nose is just great. Perfectly balanced and very homogeneous, stiff of hop aroma, but you can't pull out any separate malt or real hop distinction. Great recipe! The palate is great, too. Alcohol, caramel malts dominate, but are decorated nicely with candy like, spicy hops. Love it. Love it. Easy, hoppy, but actually pretty sessionable. Yummalicious. 8 4 8 4 16-17 A " - noss

SixpointResinImperial or Double India Pale Ale (IPA) | 9.1% ABV | 103 IBUOffered By: BIGWILLIE |
It's been less than a year since we released our four core beers in cans, and we're ecstatic to announce a new addition to the flock. This isn't a seasonal release, like the Autumnation of last fall or Diesel, still going around this winter. It isn't our upcoming spring seasonal can, either. It's a never-before-released, big beer in a slim, 12 oz. can with a potent burst of hops and as strong as an ox: Resin. We zeroed in on the botanical structure of the hop cone to get to the essence of this beer. When hops are at their peak maturity, their cores swell up with a sticky, golden, resinous substance that is the flavor you crave from an IPA. WIth an IBU of 103 and ABV of 9.1%, Resin can be loosely described as a double IPA - but rarely do Sixpoint beers adhere to any strict style demands.
