Brewed and bottled only in Hawai’i, this special hand-crafted 22 ounce beer is meant to be shared…but of course you may not want to! Humulus Lupulus is the scientific name for hops, the wondrous flower spice of beer. Latin for “the wolf vine” this amazing plant can grow up to 12 inches a day in mid-summer. This seasonal release IPA is brewed exclusively with American Whole-Cone Hop Flowers imparting deep floral-citrus hop resins found only in whole hop cones. These delicate flavors offer a spicy hop-forward balance to the Crystal, Munich and 2-Row malts in this beer. This tasty beer is great with rich meats, stews, burgers, and barbeques, its light caramel-malt flavors hook right into the charbroiled goodness creating harmony and contrast.

DR16 is a full bodied beer with layers of complexity. There is a deep, rich maltiness that is balanced by the artful use of smoked malt. While the smoke character is present, it is more subdued than you would find in a rauchbier. There is a subtle Noble hop aroma and a slight caramel character that becomes more prominent as the beer warms up. The Kölsch yeast adds a light fruitiness. DR16 has a moderately-high bitterness that is balanced nicely by its residual malty sweetness, and there is no lack of alcohol warmth as you easily finish a pint. DR16 comes in right at 10% ABV. This beer is ready to enjoy now but will also cellar well cold for at least five years. The Adambier style was popular in Dortmund, Germany until the mid-19th century, when Pilsners and Munich-style lagers began to take over.

THE 19TH ANNIVERSARY GIFT IS BRONZE. Not exactly silver or gold, but at least it’s on the medal stand! And the Bronze Age was a giant leap forward from the Stone Age - the invention of writing, metal alloys, and year-round agriculture. Evolution! 19 letters spell "He’brew The Chosen Beer". The Hebrew lunar calendar syncs with the solar cycle every 19 years. In 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. Yeay! Congress also passed the Volstead Act which led to Prohibition. Boo! The Vietnam War lasted 19.5 years. The anti-war synth hit "19" reached #1 in the UK (’85). August 19 is the UN’s World Humanitarian Day. Though I really hate the song, I got my 1 st girlfriend in 5th grade because of "Hey 19" by Steely Dan. Rush’s "Tom Sawyer" (which I still love) was named the 19th greatest hard rock song by VH1. At age 19, Lenny Bruce got an honorable discharge from the Navy for posing as a transvestite, Barbra Streisand debuted on Broadway, and Rodney Dangerfield first changed his name to Jack Roy, performing in the Catskills, near our new brewery. Groucho Marx, who once danced the Charleston on the crushed remains of Hitler’s bunker, died the 19th of August (’77).
