As for the beer itself, the intent is to exhibit the fresh and bright character of the hops. We dry hopped it with over a pound of hops per barrel of beer. It’s gold in color and the floral ester aroma is high. The hop bitterness is high, but not at all harsh. The hop flavor is intense, fresh and lively. Yet with all of our beers, it’s all about balance and this one is no exception. The ever present malt character provides a tremendously full mouthfeel. Finally, the alcohol in this beer is intentionally present (and delicious).

True to its name, Black Curtains pours black with a thick tan head. Large amounts of roasted barley provide the malt foundation in terms of both its rich malty aroma and roasted malt astringency. Surprisingly aggressive use of floral and citrus hops balance out the malt character and even push the envelope towards a hoppy beer, especially when fresh. The hops fade with time and we regularly cellar Black Curtains for up to 4 years; age is a wonderful thing with this beer as it serves to round out its finish.

Attitude’s foundation is a simple light malt bill. A three hour boil transforms its once golden hues into a stunning burnt orange. Concentrated malt sweetness intensifies flavors of orange caramel candy. A steady dose of Sultana, Centennial, Chinook and Bravo hops throughout the boil add layers of resinous orange and pineapple which balance the malt. Despite Attitude’s strength, it drinks smooth with a gentle warm finish.
